ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS INTO UNI
Didn’t get the ATAR score you need? Or no ATAR at all? You may still get into Uni through what’s commonly called an ‘alternative pathway’. This is an umbrella term given to many different options available to those that don’t qualify for Uni the ‘usual’ way (i.e with a high enough ATAR score). As we know over the years since covid, doing things the ‘usual’ way has kind of gone out the window
ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS
As a very loose snapshot, some alternative pathways could be:
- A bridging/diploma course at your University of choice for 6-12 months, and then into your degree. This commonly doesn’t require an ATAR score at all
- A Cert III, IV, or diploma course at a TAFE or other college for 6-12 months, and then re-apply into university after completing. This doesn’t require an ATAR score at all
- If you but an ATAR but it was lower than your preferred degree required, your chosen university may have similar courses with lower ATAR requirements, you could start with this course and then apply to transfer after a semester or 2
- Similar to above, If you got an ATAR but it was lower than your preferred degree required, you could look at other universities that offer a similar course, but with a lower ATAR requirement, study there for 6-12 months, and then apply to transfer to your chosen university

These are just some of the options, there are many others depending on your university of choice and your chosen field of study. The easiest way to find out is to call your preferred universities admissions or future students team, and explain your situation (i.e I didn’t get a high enough ATAR and want to get into this degree).
